About the Sanctuary
Christ the Redeemer is, above all, a Catholic Sanctuary of the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro, the first open-air sanctuary in the world. A grand church that rises above the clouds, providing a breathtaking view of the Marvelous City.
Important Notes:
Date Reservation
The registration for the wedding is exclusively online. Fill in all the necessary information, but remember that filling out does not guarantee the reservation, subject to date availability verification. Requests should be made at least 3 months and up to 18 months in advance.
We do not perform weddings on Sacred holidays, such as Holy Week, the day of Our Lady of Aparecida, Christmas, and New Year's.
Catholic Sanctuary
The Sanctuary follows the laws, dogmas, and rites of the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church. At least one of the spouses must be Catholic for the ceremony to take place.
Minister
The ceremonies are conducted by a priest appointed by the Sanctuary. If desired, the celebration can be performed by a priest chosen by the spouses, subject to prior approval by the Sanctuary.
Pre-marital Course
The couple must take the pre-marital course and participate in a preliminary interview with the celebrant.
Music
During the celebration, only sacred and classical music is allowed, according to the decree of the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro. Check the list of allowed music here.
Ceremony Format
We offer 3 distinct formats of ceremonies: inside the Chapel, in front of the chapel, or in front of the monument. Depending on the format, it is possible to hold the ceremony at exclusive times without the presence of tourist crowds.
Religious Marriage and Civil Marriage
Marriage in the Catholic Church is known as Religious Marriage, while the civil registry office marriage is the civil marriage. We also offer the option of Religious Marriage with Civil Effect, where the religious celebrant performs both ceremonies simultaneously.
