On the night of last Thursday, June 5th, there was the first celebration of a community marriage on the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer. Under the organization of the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) Cerro Corá, of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, which celebrates its first anniversary, 10 couples were united in the bonds of matrimony, atop the Corcovado.
Among couples who had the religious ceremony, presided by the rector of the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, father Omar Raposo, four are policemen and the other six are members of the communities Cerro Corá, Guararapes and Vila Candido. On this occasion, there were also two civil unions, at the foot of the Monument.
The brides, who were given dresses, were rouged and had their hairstyles made by former Senac students of basic hair and makeup technical courses in UPP - professional training program in pacified communities, in partnership with the state government. The grooms wore half-dressed tuxedos, also given.
The symbol of the commitment, the alliances, as well as the entire record of the ceremony, in photos and video, were gifts of the UPP Cerro Corá to the couples.
Ready for one of the most important moments of their lives, the future wives enjoyed the romanticism of reaching Christ the Redeemer by the Corcovado Train, after beholding the beauty of nature in Tijuca National Park, during the ascent to the Monument.
"Having the opportunity to celebrate the Corcovado’s first community wedding was a great joy, because, besides being a historic moment for the Sanctuary, it enabled Christ the Redeemer to make an announcement to the world about the importance of love and families to a more fraternal society. Observing the integration of the military police with the community, to the point of providing a celebration with so many beautiful details, also filled us with hope that we can have a better future", said father Omar.
