Celebrating 275 years of foundation, the Archdiocesan Seminary of St. Joseph, in thanksgiving, made a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, on the morning of March 29th.
The pilgrimage, which was attended by 105 seminarians and formators of the institution, marks a series of celebrations for its "Jubilee Year”, on the anniversary of its foundation, to be celebrated on September 5th.
Founded in 1739, the Archdiocesan Seminary of St. Joseph is the oldest in Brazil and is located in the Rio Comprido neighborhood, north of the city. The institution follows the guidelines announced in one of the main documents on the formation of priests, the "Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis," of the Blessed Pope John Paul II, and has as a basis for the preparation of the clergy the human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral aspects.
Within the celebrations, the Seminar will also visit all the vicariates in order to, along with the clergy and the faithful, commemorate this time in the formation of future priests, and thank all the material and spiritual collaboration received for its maintenance.
