Have you ever stopped to think that so often we get full of moorings to do good, by thinking about what others will think or even for considering that such a thing does not suit us well at some point? I am convinced that God often speaks to us through intuition, giving direction so that our attitudes can reach others, but our heart is closed in selfishness and vanity.
And then we do not even realize how simple it is to be a missionary! We only need that, in our heart, there is the willingness to put ourselves at service. Pope Francis, while praying the Angelus Prayer in Copacabana, in 2013, at the World Youth Day would remind us about it making memory of how much Our Lady acted as a missionary, in the simplicity with which she placed herself at the disposal of the brothers.
"Having received the grace to be the Mother of the Word Incarnate, she did not keep that gift for herself, she felt responsible and departed out of her house and went, in a hurry, to visit her cousin Elizabeth who needed help (cf. Lk 1, 38-39). She fulfilled a gesture of love, charity and concrete service, taking Jesus who she bore in her womb. And she hurried to make this gesture ", the Pope said.
The only woman who, in fact, had the "King in the belly", did not stick to the alleged status of mother of the Savior, being "closed in herself". On the contrary! By knowing who she was carrying in her womb, she did not deny the service. That's because she was not arrogant. She recognized herself only as a servant.
And a vision like this changes everything! For the servant knows that his role is to do what needs to be done. I want, like Mary, to do what needs to be done. I can’t get stuck on selfishness or vanity. More important than any status is the simplest and yet also the noblest task: to be a missionary. I am willing to commit my life to the service of others. And you up to the challenge? We’re together in this!
